iritis and nervous/digestive system

Post by shari »

I was diagnosed last month with iritis for the first time. I have read several forum listings that irritable bowel and immune disorders may be a cause. I was diagnosed several years ago with irritable bowel, but have not needed treatment for it in 5 years or so. My eye doc. tested me for lupus, arthritis etc. all negative. Now the past few weeks I have had a twitching of my fingers on my right hand, same side as my iritis is. I am sure this is coincidence, but it is unusual for me. I am in the process of being treated for tendonitis and ulnar neuritis in my arms with nsaids and neurontin so have been on them for over a year. I use steroid drops in my eye for the iritis. Any possible links here and would I need any other tests to get to the cause of the iritis?
Thank you for any advice - this is all new and a little frightening.

iritis and neuritis

Post by Mike Bartolatz »

neuritis can be a part of many disease processes: some are related to uveitis. Multiple sclerosis can be related to any form of uveitis. Some of the autoimmune connective tissue diseases do to as do vascular disease processes. Should you continue to have neuritis you might want to be evaluated by a neurologist. I have restless leg syndrome but it also causes my hands to jerk from time to time. it would probably be better termed restess limb syndrome in my case. Please read through some of the articles in our related conditions forum and other forums too. you will link to a couple of other sites but it is easier for me to only have to maintain one database and link to it from this site.

IBD and Crohn's disease are sometimes found in conjunction with uveitis. You may want to contact a GI specialist for evaluation. The HLA B27 haplotype can be related to this and you can be tested for it.

wish you the best,
Mike
