14 yr old daughter Anterior Uveitis and Posterior Synechea

Post by popjoc »

Our 14 year old daughter woke up one morning about 6 weeks ago with a red eye. At first we thought it would disappear by itself. Bought some eye drops but they were of no use.

Local GP prescribed antibiotic drops but yet again these did not work. Eventually we were referred to the eye clinic in our local hospital and she was diagnosed with Anterior Uveitis . Straightaway she was put on to Pred Forte Drops every hour and Mydralate drops for pain and dilation etc.

Nearly 3 weeks later although the redness is gone the inflammation shows no sign of dissipating. She has now been told that she has Posterior Synechiae. An injection to try and fix the synechiae was given but was unsuccessful. Now she is being referred to a Uveitis Specialist next week but as parents we are worried that damage has already been done. The doctor at the eye clinic is referring her on as she said she can't do anything else with our daughter.

As you can imagine we are out of our minds with worry, so any advice, words of comfort, or ideas of expectations would be greatly appreciated.

We are based in North West England, UK.

Anterior uveitis only involves the cornea and the lens.
Synechiae is not too big a problem. Most people don't notice. The lens can always be replaced. Redness is gone so inflammation is now low grade. It's normal for it to linger for weeks. Vision won't be damaged but might need glasses because of Synechiae. My synechiae ironically improved my vision so I no longer need glasses for driving. Study the eye in good light to see where the last red is because that might be where the red starts for next attack. Keep drops in fridge. You want to catch early
Next time.
