My understanding is that that steroids cause the floaters for people with anterior uveitis
The floaters are in vitreous and the vitreous is not inflamed when you have only iritis.

Was put on prednilisone after the second attacked cleared. Supposed to take for 6 weeks 1 drop per day. Started this regimen 1.5 weeks ago and now, today, I am having another painful attack. I just put myself back on durezol and will call the doctor again Monday. Really bummed it's back again so soon! I'm afraid I'm moving into chronic iritis territory.

Also wore contacts for the first time last night - can this help trigger?

I started back in my contacts last tuesday after not wearing them for almost 3 months. I saw optho on Friday and she said contacts will not trigger iritis. My eyes were quiet and have bedn since Dec. 28 th, but I am still tapering off oral prednisone. Sorry you are having problems again. I don't know if the contacts are a factor or not?

Wondering if oral prednisone might help you? Sometimes drops are not enough to control this thing.

Don't the oral steroids have a lot more side effects?

In very high doses they do. But, i've been on oral pred since November. Started at 40 mg. and tomorrow i will be down to 6 mg. I only had side effects the couple weeks I was on high dosage and those were jitteriness and insomnia. But, it has been a blessing as my vision came back and my floaters are 90% gone. If I get a recurrence my doc is talking cellcept. Praying I can wean off steroids over next month snd not get a flare. I am no longer on any drops.

Julie, my uveitis specialist at Wheaton, also works out of Hinsdale. She is an ocular immunologist. I really like her. Not sure if that would be too far for you to go or not? Her name is Dr. kaushal. I know she is at Hinsdale on Thursdays.

Re: Permanent Iritis Damage and Permanent Pain - help

Post by juliell »

So, my first bout was so bad that I have scarring, an enlarged pupil and a droopy eyelid. I am pretty much in pain most of the time due to damage to the pupil. The doctor told me these side effects are permanent. Being in pain for the rest of my life doesn't fee like a great option! Does anyone know if the pain will ever leave me? She says the pupil doesn't open and close right. The pain can be intermittent, but I stare at a monitor all day and today it is especially bad.

Help!

I think most of us with uveitis have some intermittent eye pain. Mine they say is dry eye now. You could get a second opinion. There is a fb group for uveitis as well. It is very active. Someone there might have a suggestion.

Wrong. Floaters are caused by iritis. Floaters are one of the beginning signs of iritis attack. Steroids may also cause floaters

I had to stay on Durezol as the iritis went chronic. Started to get pressure spike so was given pressure drugs. Pressure spiked really high recently and lost vision; was told I had hemorrhaging so given more pressure medication. Now I have blurry vision and am told I also have a stage 3 cataract that progresses rapidly. Does anyone have experiences similar? I would like to be able to see again a soon and not take 4 separate drops per day.

Also they switched me to prednilisone in the past and i flared so I am just waiting for a new flare now that I'm off the durezol. I do see a uveitis specialist but still feel at a loss for answers and resolutions.

Thanks for the update. What drops are you taking? Hopefully, you can get cataract surgery. That should fix the pain from synechiae. I don't have pain from my synechiae. Have you tried celebrex or humira?
