spondylitis
Hi- I was just diagnosed with iritis for the first time (I'm 24) and am wondering how likely it is that I might have spondylitis. Does anyone know what percentage of iritis sufferers have ankylosing spondylitis? Thanks-

uveitis and spondylitis
The only information I have is from the article on Pediatric uveitis. there you can find the occurance of AS in children.
Ankylosing spondylitis is most often related to the HLA B27 haplotype. this haplotype can predispose to other chronic systemic illnesses too. it is impossible to say if you will develop any systemic illness. for some with this haplotype all they get is iritis.
I wish there were a simple answer. Just know that if you start having Irritable bowel disease, or have unexplained back pain or joint pain etc to let your primary care physician as well as your opthalmologist know. usually doctors won't start looking for a connection to any disease or pathogen until you have recurrent or very difficult to control uveitis.
wish you the best,
Sincerely,
