Sudden Blurry Vision

Post by beeinformed »

Hi,

I haven't posted on this forum for awhile but I recently had two bouts of sudden blurry vision (three or four months apart), one lasting a few days and the other one lasting a little over a week. These bouts of blurriness went away on their own.

I have a history of systemic autoimmune diseases (i.e., lupus, central nervous vasculitis, etc ) and recently developed relapsing polychondritis. The former (lupus) I think gave me two or three iritis attacks and with the later (rp), I developed inflammation of ear cartilage, conductive and sensoneural hearing loss and stenosis of the ear canal. I am currently taking Cellcept and Prednisone for the hearing loss.

Besides the iritis, I also had a severe inflammation where I lost most of my tear glands within a period of twenty-four hours. I have been under the care of an ocular immunologist since 2008. I also have cataracts which are being monitored by this doctor as well.

The sudden blurriness particularly affected my right eye and prior to this symptom, I had discomfort in that eye. I will be seeing my eye doctor soon but was wondering what could be the possible cause (s) of the sudden blurriness and appreciate any input from the members. Thanks!

you could have posterior uveitis, pan uveitis, inflammation of the cornea, inflammation of the optic nerve. could easily be cornea inflammation as you describe it for a short period of time or optic neuritis. call the uveitis specialist for a moved up appointment. any time you get change in vision, get an expedited appointment or call the office and go in for evaluation. when my eyes were active with inflammation I would do this at the request of the Doctor who wanted to work with me to optimize my care to prevent further damage as I have a history of optic neuritis, cystoid macular edema and of course uveitis etc.

sorry you have so much going on right now. if new inflammation is present you might have to add a TNF A blocking drug to the Methotrexate. PMR usually only lasts a couple of years so there may be light at the end of the tunnel for the neck and low back pain. did they explore Cogan's syndrome with the hearing issues and Uveitis?

Wish you the very best.
