Specialists in UK/est Yorshire or Austria/Innsbruck

Post by Clivia »

Hello everyone.
I know the question sounds a bit strange as the UK and Austria are not neighbouring countries. However I am Austrian, but live in the UK and visit Innsbruck in Austria regularly. I just want to find at least an answer why the iritis returns with no specific pattern and hopefully something I can do to prevent it.
I would be grateful for any recommendation of a specialist in those areas.
Thank you

please see my response to your introduction.

Professor William Ayliffe in London is the BEST ocular immunologist in Europe in my Lay opinion. the list at http://www.uveitis.org has specialists throughout London and Europe. many only take NHS patients. professor Ayliffe also takes private insurance, NHS and personal payments. I strongly urge you to get to him for care.
your long history of recurrent uveitis is going to eventually cause serious damage to your eyes. the steroid eye drops add up too and cataract and glaucoma formation are common. today the international uveitis society recommends a corticosteroid sparing approach to treatment. using other means once the fire is put out with steroids, to retrain your immune system to stop attacking your eyes and get you to durable remission.
HLA B27 is one link to iritis that gets under control in one eye only to have the other flare up, ping ponging between eyes. it is linked to ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. there are MANY other conditions to consider as well such as Sarcoidosis viruses, yeasts, mycobacteria, protozoans and other 'critters.'

Wish you the very best,
Mike

Hello Mike
Thank you so much for your very helpful replies to both of my posts
I have not been tested for ANA – but will consider doing so – nor do I suffer from anything else you mentioned – not that I know of at least – as I wrote , I am of generally good health – and we don’t have any serious medical conditions on both sides of my family.
I have contacted Prof. Ayliffe’s secretary. I have not fixed an appointment, but will do so in the near future.
Just a little information : the telephone number on this web page is wrong – at least from the UK – however I contacted the Lister hospital in London, where he treats his private patients, as I understood it’s Croydon for NHS patients and Lister for the private ones – and I was given the telephone number of his secretary MS Silvana – 07557 102 971 ( + 44 7557 102 971 form outside the UK ) – that is the work mobile number, which connects to a land line if Ms Silvana is in the office - sorry the receptionist at Lister did not know her Sir name and I forgot to ask when I was on the phone with her.

I would recommend Prof Ayliffe, based at the Lister hospital in London. I saw him once at Croydon (London) too, via NHS referral. Think that unit is closing soon to NHS referrals. You need to pay for a private referral at Lister. Paid private for my next appointment to see him at lister. I live within the North East area of the U.K, so London not close. Worth the extra effort though.
Not had good experiences with my local opthamologists.
Here's some info on prof Ayliffe:- http://www.consultant-search.co.uk/cons ... am-ayliffe Don't ring the phone number at the top of the page to make an appointment to see him, you would need to ring the Lister hospital directly.
