Hello

Post by lindauk »

Hi Im a 61 woman who lives in the UK. I have been getting Iritis regularly ( 7 times ) for the last year, I've had the xrays and tests to find out what's causing it , with no reason found.
I'm hoping to find support but mostly advise on here as I'm out of my depth .

Welcome to the group!
did they test you for the HLA B27 gene often linked to autoimmune uveitis? it is time to get an ocular immunologist into the hunt to get you on a steroid sparing approach to treatment if at all possible. iritis is also known as anterior uveitis, inflammation affecting the front of your eyes. is there inflammation in the middle or back of your eyes too? what type of uveitis is it, granulomatus or non granulomatus? I assume you are on steroid eyedrops and a dilating drop to keep the iris from sticking to the lens at this time. is the inflammation in only one eye? do you have a history of cold sores caused by the herpes Simplex virus? do you have difficulty dilating your eyes? is there any adhesion between the iris and the lens?

there is a list of ocular immunololgists at http://www.uveitis.org the website of the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis foundation here in the USA, it has an international specialist list that you can get contact information for these rare specialists capable of getting your eyes quieted down, to remission. Professor William Ayliffe is in the London area and he practices out of several hospitals. I highly recommend him. he takes patients with the NHS as well as privately or on supplemental insurance. additionally there is a support group in the UK that I suggest that you get in contact with. it is called Oliviasvision.org professor ayliffe is a consultant for them. Olivia is a young girl who's vision was saved by a steroid sparing approach to treatment. she and her parents started the site and there are a lot of patients who have used various ocular immunologists in the UK as well as professor Ayliffe to get them to remission.

please know that you are welcome here as well. I'll do my best to help you if I can. Know that you are not alone.

wishing you the very best.
