Newcomer with Lots of questions....

Post by kvezina »

Thanks Mike for your help. Here are answers to your questions.
1. My daughter does have uveitis in just 1 eye. (left)
2. She doesn't have a history of cold sores or Herpes simplex. Bloodwork came back negative on this but current Iritis specialist did place her on anti-viral (acyclovere) 2 months ago because nothing else was helping.
3. Interestingly, she did have a bout of Urinary track infections about a year ago that were difficult to get rid of. And she had another incident of UTI's 2 years ago. She has been tested for many things, but I do not believe she has been tested for TINU nor has anyone mentioned this condition to us. Does diagnosis require another blood test?
4. We would like the name of the specialists in Michigan and Illinois? Have you heard of Dr. Debra Goldstein and would you recommend her?
5. With the initial onset, her eye would not dilate..that is how she discovered the problem. It does work now, but is slower to respond.
6. Last, she had a steriod injection a year ago in August. She began to have pressure problems in Nov. and it has not come down since. It is controlled by diuretics. The injection finally dissolved in March and we have been told it could still take several months for the pressure to come down on its own. From you experience and knowledge have you found this to be true? Also, her eyelid droops a bit now.

this specialistis an Excellent Ocular immunologist. she is very presonable as well from feedback I've had from others who have been able to see her. get your daughter in right away.

the other specialist in Ohio is Dr Dino Klisovic and in Illinois there are DR Anthony Ekong and DR Howard Tessler.
stay in state and see Maria.

as I indicated, TINU is usually a condition with uveitis and preceeded by urinary tract infections.

Kidney disease can be seen in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Sarcoidosis patients. there are specific tests for this.

Dr Jancevski may do some tests for this but make sure your daughter tells her about the urinary tract infections.

does the iris open and close? a droppy eyelid can be a symptom of corticosteroid use. there are other causes but the specialist will know if it would e signficant. mine droop from steroids.

the steroid question is best answered by the specialist as well. usually steroid related glaucoma goes away once steroid is withdrawn. some steroids act longer than others too. I assume the injection was NOT into the eye. if it was into the eye into the vitreous and if it was a long acting steroid, then it might take surgery to remove the fluid that fills the eye to get pressure to come down depending on how high the pressure is and if it can be brought to within normal limits with meds.

some pressure lowering drugs can actually cause problems in a uveitis patient.

make that call tomorrow and get yoru daughter in to see Maria. tell her you were sent to her by Dr Foster's online support group ( I moderate forums for the Ocular IMmunology and uveitis Foundation) and Maria did her fellowship under DR Foster at Harvard).

Take care,
mike
