Introduction

Post by clare968 »

Hi All,
I am new to this forum.Diagnosed with Palindromic Rheumatism last sept. started on Plaquenil, after 6 months got good results, first time in 20 yrs that my joint pain had lessened ! Then blurry vision mostly in left eye.Eye specialist diagnosed uveitis in left and scarring in right eye which meant that I'd had it there and not noticed.Uveitis did not fit with PR diagnosis so went for more blood tests,ct scans and x rays.HLA B-27 negative.Seeing new rheumy now who is sending me for MORE blood tests and MRI of lumbar spine,I have chronic backache, especially bad on waking.Stopped the Plaquenil for fear of doing more damage to my eyes.Eye drops not effective, high doses of oral steroids kept it in check but it worsened when I tapered off the dose.Had steroid injection in eye 3 weeks and uveitis has calmed down a bit now.Think the next step will be Methotrexate for uveitis and joints. Will keep you posted.I am in Melbourne,Australia.

Welcome to the group!

sounds like your doctors are up to date with treatment since Methotrexate is being considered and the Plaquenil has been discontinued (won't help for uveitis). I assume the steroid injection was to tissue surrounding the eye rather than 'into' your eye itself since this is rarely done, usually as a last resort because of risk associated with it. these are called 'periorbiatl injections'.

please join us in our general discussion forum. ask questions as they develop. nothing it too trivial to ask BTW. We Are here to help if we can.
