Can anyone offer any advice?

Post by Jaynie »

Hi All

I have suffered from iritis now for about two and a half years mainly in one eye at a time but two weeks ago was diagnosed with bilateral iritis. The doctor has said that there are small bleeds showing behind the eyes and the lens has slightly stuck to the iris on the left eye (which is the eye I have had with the most frequent bouts). Can anyone tell me why these bleeds could be showing up and if there is anyway to unstick the lens from the iris? Also the pressure tests on the eyes are showing that this is increasing and as there is a family history of glaucoma this does worry me.

Thanks for the site, it has been a great help particularly with such a debilitating eye condition.

TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH, YOU NEED TO GET AN EXPERT ON YOUR TEAM NOW, NOT LATER.

Tell me where you live and I will suggest the BEST ocular immunologist near to you for a consultation.
what you describe is not normal so soon into your experience with uveitis.
as to the adhesions, they can be broken at time of cataract surgery if all attempts have failed so far.
where is the bleeding occuring, in the retina? if so the likelihood of a systemic underlying condition is much greater from an autoimmune condition or from a virus, bacteria or other pathogen especially since this is now bilateral.
Elevated pressure can be from the steroids you are using or from other causes which you allude to.
the main thing is to get an underlying cause established if at all possible and then to implement a corticosteroid sparing approach to treatment.
an ocular immunologist is a very skilled opthalmologist who often has additional specialties such as rheumatology, retina etc which can treat underlying autoimmune disease or pathgoens related to the uveitis.

you can private message me if you like and I'll provide contact information for you.
there is also a list of these specialists at http://www.uveitis.org the website of the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation here in the USA.
C Stephen Foster is the President and Founder of the Foundation and is also a professor of opthalmology at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, MA USA
He is the TOP ocular immunologist in the world and if you can I suggest you get in to see him as soon as possible.
tell them that Mike Bartolatz has indicated that you require an EXPEDITED appointment.

wishing you the very best,
Mike Bartolatz
