Hi All
Im new here, I an 53 yrs old and have had recurring iritis in both eyes since age 18. I recently moved to another Canadian Province and was referred to a new Opthalmologist. I already knew that I have a cataract developing in my right eye, this eye was damaged by steroids over the years so the iris is not functioning properly. Anyway this new doctor is telling me that surgery is now possible to correct the iris problem and also remove the cataract, he is the first person to suggest to me this is possible, any one else have experience of this surgery, was it succesful? I know there is a risk of starting a iritis flare up but the doctor told me he would load me up with steriods pre surgery to prevent this happening.

welcome to the group!
an experienced specialist in dealing with uveitis related cataract surgery can successfully implant an intra ocular lens. pretreatment with the steroid eyedrop Durezol here in the USA works well to help prevent flare up along with a two week course of Durezol after surgery. this is still risky in any uveitis patient however so selection of patient along with the experience of the surgeon is critical to successful cataract surgery.
there is a list of Canadian Uveitis specialists in our Specialist forum. one of them may be able to implement a corticosteroid approach to treatment for you to help prevent further complications to long term inflammation as well as long term corticostersteroid alone treatment.
