Hi there

Post by kaye meegan »

I am new to this site, so apologies if I get anything wrong. I had bilateral Iritis over 20 years ago and then again the following year. Since then though I have had a bleed and laser, no other problems till 3 weeks ago when my Iirits returned with a vengence. Does anyone else out there have a similar history or are you constantly plagued. Does it effect your travel insurance?

if you are NOT seeing a true specialist in the treatment of recurrent uveitis, you need to to start a corticosteroid sparing approach to treament which will retrain your immune system to stop attacking your eyes. have you been tested for things linked to uveitis? do you have a form of arthritis, GI problems, skin rashes, nervous system problems to include tinnitus, or balance problems, or dry mouth or mouth sores?

I don't know if iritis will make it difficult to get travel medical insurance as I've never purchase it.

please go to http://www.uveitis.org PATIENT INFORMATION section of the site and seek out a fellowship trained Opthalmologist in the treatment of all forms of Ocular inflammatory disease processes. your current 'bleeding' is very serious and underlying inflammation has to be stoped now aggressively employing drugs other than just corticosteroids. Avastin is a drug which stops new blood vessel growth which can be injected into the eye to new blood vessel growth and ensuing Cystoid macular edema and epiretinal membanes which can cause serious vision loss or blindness.
Glaucoma is often a consequence ot iritis as is cataract formation both from the disease and from corticosteroids used to stop inflammation. once inflammation is stopped, other meds called Non Steroidal ANTI inflammatory drugs can be used to stop inflammation and even get you to a point of remission,
Disease modifying anti Rheumatic drugs are often used as well alone or in combination with the newer biological medications.
