Hi everyone

Post by danny19 »

Hi, my name is Dan. I live in the UK, am 24 years old and work as a manager in the fast food industry.
I started getting a red eye and had increasing sensitivity to light in my right eye Sunday a week ago. I didn't think too much of it until I woke up Monday afternoon and had the same symptoms. I went to my doctor who refered me to the local eye unit at my local hospital. The doctor there said I had developed iritits and prescribed me some steroid eye drops for 5 days which I have now finished taking. During the week I returned to the hospital for blood tests and x-rays of my lower back as I have a history of lower back problems.
However now the steroids have stopped my eye has become slightly inflamed again and the headache on my right temple is happening again in bright lights and my vision, although not as blurred as when I was taking the steroids is still slightly blurred.
My next appointment is on the 25/2.

iritis and low back pain

Post by Mike Bartolatz »

Danny,
if you have low back pain sometimes a MRI of the low back to see if there is Ankylosing Spondylitis. this is related to HLA B27 a gene. get back in to the opthalmologist right away, don't wait as if untreated without steroid and dilating drops the iris can stick to the lens. If you are in the London area, please contact either Ms Lightman at Morefields or Mr Ayliffe at Croydon. contact information can be found on our Specialist forum.

please print out the Treatment algorithm for non granulomatus uveitis from our related conditions forum.

there are a number of indivuals from the UK who belong to the uveitis support group at Harvard and MEEI. here is a link:

wish you the best!
