Personally I would see Dr Perez who has a fantastic relationship with his patients to include small children. he has EXCELLENT credentials having trained under Dr Foster at MEEI, and Harvard Medical School.
your relatives might do well to see him too to see if a steroid sparing approach to treatment can be initiated to help both the Akylosing Spondylitis and the iritis so that complications like catarac, glaucoma etc don't occur. there are other complications such as cystoid macular edema, epiretinal membranes, cyclitic membranes and vascularization that can occur with potenitial for detachment of the retina. the brochures available through links here at the Parent's forum will help you understand allot of this. you might want to give copies to your Pediatrician, Dr Perez, and the rheumatologist and keep a copy for yourself too.
The Glossary of medical terms explains allot too.
wish you the very best,
Mike
