Constant Iritis

Post by Karilyn »

Hi Mike,
Thank you so much for your quick reply. It is so greatly appreciated. I live in Hawaii ( I know I never get any sympathy)!!! Can you please recommend an excellent specialist for my iritis. I wrote in earlier with my history. I will have to travel, I know that. So I am open to going to wherever the best specialist is for me. By chance, is there one in the Portland Oregon area?
Thank you,
Karilyn

Thank you so much for your honesty. That is exactly what I need. Can you recommend one then that would be an excellent option for me and my condition? Coming from Hawaii the West Coast would be the easiest for me. Washington?

Dr Russel VanGelder at the University of Washington in Seattle would be a good choice. please see my response to you in my other post to you in the Related conditions forum where you posted to the topic regarding HLA B27 uveitis in an Annoucement there.

I heard him speak at a medical conference a few years ago in Boston. patient feedback has been EXCELLENT and is what I use to determine to whom I will advise members to seek consultation for their complex cases of uveitis.

some means of determining why your uveitis is so chronic has to be determined. HLA B27 uveitis usually ping pongs between eyes going from one to the other. sometimes steroid injection to tissue surrounding the eye is needed in cases which won't calm down. the goal though is to get you 'off all steroids without inflammation' if at all possible.

I indicated that I could meet you at Seatac airport and take you to the University of Washington if needed as I live in Tacoma, WA, about 39 miles south of Seattle. I have never been to Dr VanGelder's clinic though so we would need time to find it.
airfare to Hawaii is about $300 roundtrip right now. I saw one advertised on Travelzoo.com a week or so ago. hotels are located just across from the Airport or within a few blocks. most have free shuttle service between the airport and the hotels. you can Private message me if you like.
click on my name and it will turn red in various posts on the Forum page or on the top right side of any message where I am posting and you will then be able to private message me or you can email me at oldefart (at) hotmail (dot) com
DR VanGelder's contact information can be found at http://www.uveitis.org in the PATIENT INFORMATION section of the site on the SPECIALIST list at WASHINGTON STATE. if you have problems, let me know and I'll put a link here for you.

Wishing you quiet eyes,
mike

Mike,
Once again, thank you so much for all of your help. I finally feel some encouragement. This has been such a battle for me. :D :D :D My first bout of iritis actually started 3 years ago while I was living there is Burlington Washington. Born and raised in Seattle and lived in Burlington for the last 25 years. I don't know if the stress of the move brought it on as I have never lived anywhere other than Washington State. Then this move to Hawaii came out of the blue and I have been doing battle ever since moving here. I don't know of anybody here that has even ever heard of iritis, other than my doctors. So it is so nice to find a forum where everybody understands. I have been so sick that I am currently on medical leave from work since September. My eye Dr here has told me that if I don't quit my job, I will continue to get worse. All the drugs that they have me on I am sure are making me sicker than the condition itself. But I have to take them if I want to keep my eyesight. It is just so very frustrating. I am sure that you have heard all this before. My eye Dr tells me that it is all stress related. I just really don't know what to believe. So I am in full blown iritis currently. I am in the process of getting a referral from my GP and then I will call the Dr.that you recommended in University of Washington. Thank you for your very generous offer of the ride from the airport. You are very kind. I will keep it in mind as the process gets rolling for me to get over the ocean to see the good Dr.
Once again thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Laureen,
Thank you so much for your input. I know how very frustrating this condition is. I have never heard of acupunture for treatment of this condition. I will do some research on that. Just like everybody else, I just want it to go AWAY. AND NOT COME BACK... EVER!!! I hope that your eyes continue to stay quiet for you.
Once again, Thank you,
Karilyn
