Miamimom, WELCOME to the group!

Thank you so very much for the contact information for Victor Perez, an outstanding ocular immunologist and friend of all with uveitis. if your child has HIM as the Ocular Immunologist, he/she is in very good hands.

please tell us a bit about yourself as well as your childs uveitis. we can help you understand much of the information that you will need to deal with this often debilitating problem in small children.

Wishing you the very best,
Mike Bartolatz

I have a son with juvenile spondylitis (HLA-B27+). His rheumatologist requested a base-line eye exam and suggested we establish a relationship with a good pediatric opthmologist due to the risk of acute iritis/uveitis with spondy. My brothers (also w/spondy) get iritis fairly often. The rheumatologist suggested any of the docs @ bascom palmer (iritis specialists Dr Janet Davis, Dr Victor Perez or Dr Thomas Albini)

So far, no iritis that I am aware of. Although I just learned that it is not always acute in kids - not always red and painful. You cant miss it in my brothers - hope my son never has to deal with it.

glad you are learning of possible complications to HLA B27 iridocyclitis. your relatives might want to get a consult with Dr Victor Perez. often this stuff can be stopped but the earlier treatment is initiated the better the outcome using a steroid sparing approach to treatment. Please know that we are here to help if we can.

Thanks again for the contact information for Dr Perez. He was in Cleveland and relocated to Miami and we lost contact with him during the past few months. WE NEED him badly.

Take care,
Mike
