I need help/directions/answers

Post by Mom45 »

I am 55 yrs old; have had glaucoma approximately 8 yrs (treating with Lumigan drops-which has been working well) and I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2001 and have had migraines since age 15. In Oct 2015 I stared having a ringing in my ears which happened only occasionally. Due to the ringing becoming constant, I went to my family doctor in December and was diagnosed with tinnitus basically being told I would have to learn to live with it. On Easter morning 2016, I awoke with right eye redness, pain, blurry vision and light sensitivity. The very next Sunday, I awoke with the left eye being the same way.
During the 3 weeks following Easter I went to my eye dr, an ophthalmologist and a hospital ER. I was told I had iritis and throughout those 3 weeks I was put on Alphagan, Lotemax and Homatropaire. The dosages were changed about every other day depending on who I was seeing and I was told they had to find out what worked best for me. My problem was the glaucoma and the steroids increased my pressure which then caused a migraine. On April 17 I was in ER with a 6 hr long episode of vertigo - which I've never had. I was admitted for 5 days and then referred to an ophthalmologist-a different one than I had seen. During hospital stay they continued my eye meds, and I continued to have redness, pain and light sensitivity. I have also been referred to ENT specialist. No one knew what caused the vertigo. The ophthalmologist stopped all my eye meds and put me on Durezol drops and Ibuprofen 400mg TID. The inflammation in my eyes "feels" better, not completely well but better. My glaucoma pressure is high. All the drops and/or meds are steroids which causes my pressure to increase. The ophthalmologist I saw after the hospital told me I had scleritis, not iritis. I go back to him on May 5th. I cannot get in to see the rheumatologist until June 28th. I am so confused and unsure what to do. I am to return to work on Monday and I work on computers (2 monitors) all day. Looking at this screen while wearing sunglasses has made my eyes hurt. I feel my heartbeat in my eyes!!! The MRI and all blood work at hospital was fine. I have dealt with glaucoma, migraines and fibromyalgia for years, but all have been fine, but all of this has basically stopped me in my tracks. I don't know if the ear ringing and pain in my right ear have anything to do with what's going on with my eyes and am just totally frustrated and confused. I think I just need support and direction. I searched online for hours for a specialist of some kind, but only found 3 in California. I just don't know who to turn to or what to do.

Hi there. So sorry you are dealing with eye issues. I would definitely look for a uveitis specialist on the list on this forum. Many general opthos seem to not know the best way to treat us. The u eitis specialist can work with a rheumy if needed to get you on a better track.
