Concerned about continued dilation after treatment

Post by SF_eyeproblem »

My friend completed treatment for iritis in one eye - a typical course of drops to dilate and steroid to reduce inflamation. Seemed to work fine, and the eyes returned to (somewhat) normal after treatment. Still a little redness and fuzzy vision but it was getting better. Then, about 10 days after winding down the drops, the eye which had the iritis is now dilated all on its own. There's a bit of fuzzy vision and light sensitivity but no pain.

My friend is traveling in the US and is resisting seeing a doctor. I am concerned she may suffer damage to the eye. Is it normal for the dilation to take a while to go away?

it sounds like it might be linked to the herpes Sx virus that causes cold sores. she needs to get back in to see an ophthalmologist right away. antiviral meds would be required to treat this. if it is the herpes sx virus it can get to the back of the eye causing what is known as Acute Retinal Necrosis, cuasing blindess in the eye.
