Dx with Iritis but...

Post by lghigh »

I have had a lot of trouble with my eyes this last summer, finally going to my Optomitrist in September. After several trips was diagnosed with Iritis and Fouchs dystorphy. I went to a spcialist 4 hours away for the Fouchs but no info on Iritis. I did do prednisolone drops for about a month, this did help some with the pain and the redness went away. Now I am back to the pain, above my eyes below down as far as my cheekbones and my temples, I am sensitive to light, get pain in my eye with change of light. Does this sound like iritis, went to my Optomitrist Monday and he doesn't really want to deal with me anymore and said maybe sinus??? Told me to go ahead and start my prednisolone again if I want. I live in a area with only 1 Opthmologist and it is very hard to get in to see him, as long as 6 month wait. Should I contact my specilist? Does this pain sound like it is Iritis? Could it get worse. I have poor vision with the Fouchs and also have slight cataracts. Please any advise would help no one here is able to answer my questions.

Where are you located? you may well have to travel to get expert care. that said, iritis and fuch's dystrophy are medical conditions requiring care through an OPHTHALMOLOGIST who is a medical doctor. you may have to bite the bullet and get on a plane to see a real expert for you conditions.
often sinus problems precede uveitis flare ups as can tooth infections etc. the blood vessels located in the face can also become inflamed in some disease processes associated with iritis that are systemic in nature.

take your steroid eyedrops and dilating drops as directed. the dilating drops might help with pain since they relax the muscle that opens and closes the iris which tries to stick to the lens from the inflammatory cells. the ophthalmologist will also do exam of the middle and back of the eye which can also become inflamed through special means of examination. the pars plana located just behind the iris can become inflamed and this is almost impossible to see without doing a special way of examining the eye through what is known as a depressed scleral exam. the doctor has to push in on the white part of the eye so that he can then look at this region.

wishing you quiet eyes In the coming new Year,
Mike

if you have iritis going on, Yes you need dilating drops! if it isn't iritis, then no as the iris can only stick to the lens with anterior uveitis/iritis where the inflammation gives of cells which can act like glue sticking the iris to the lens, if you have another form of uveitis without cells in the anterior chamber then no you don't need dilating drops.

the closest expert to you is in either Denver or in Salt lake city. we have other members who go to either place for care. the other option is in Nebraska to see Dr Quan, Nguyen one of the very best ocular immunologists in the USA at the University of Nebraska.

Albert Vitale is in Salt Lake City,
there are two of doctor Foster's fellows in the Denver area. One is Eric letko,
contact information for them can be found at http://www.uveitis.org located in the PATIENT information section of the site.

wishing you a merry Christmas,
