5 years is enough

Post by flemtyke »

Hello, first of all ild like to introduce myself, my name is james cureton im 30 and live in barnsley in England.

I was first diagnosed with iritis/uveitis around 5 years ago now, and have pretty much had it in either one of my eyes for this entire time. the reason i came across this forum was i was becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of improvement and infact the gradual worsening of my condition and so i wanted to see what i or the "professionals" were doing wrong/missing.

ive had just about every test going from all the blood test all the way to an mri scan but nothing so all im left with is "heres some drops take them 3 times a day and we'll see you in two weeks" but my condition has gone from being an annoyance with 'floaters' in my field of vision to severe pain in my eyes and now i cannot actualy see anything in the dark and really struggle in low light when driving headlights are just one ball of hazzy light, and if the sunshine is to bright in the day i cant actualy walk with my head up as it just hurts my eyes. i (yesterday) went back to the hospital as i have hardly any vision in my right eye (its just all cloudy) and was told i could have cateracts now due to prolonged use of steroid drops!

i have now asked to be refered to see a iritis specialist and am back at the hospital tommorow. i am wondering though if i havent already gone past the point of help?

thanks james.

James, Welcome to the group!
I encourage you to do whatever it takes to see a true expert in the diagnosis and treatment of uveitis. there I MUCH more than just corticosteroids which can be used to get you to REMISSION from iritis. If you will tell me where you live, I can suggest the BEST ocular immunologist near you for a consultation.
you are correct to question your present care. as long as all pathogens can be ruled out as a cause, chemotherapeutic immunomodulation can get you to remission. often just adding a Non STeroidal Anti inflammatory medication once the eye is quieted down with the steroid can keep the eye quiet but it takes about TWO years to do this.
