Hi. My name is Deborah. I am 56 and have been having chronic bouts of Iritis since I was 18. This past September, I had catarct surgery in my left eye. Ever since, I feel like I have constant Iritis. The eye is not too red or painful but I have so many black, lacey floaters and vitreous fluid in it, that it's really affecting my vision. My opthalmologist said nothing to me about this possibility before surgery.
When, after the surgery, I had a really bad case of Iritis, he said "Well, it's like running a marathon after you have knee surgery".
He gave me a prescription for Prednisolone drops prior to surgery, which I took faithfully. Then when I did get Iritis anyway, he made the knee surgery/marathon comparison. I have been occasionally putting Prednisolone drops in my right eye ever since.
I have a less severe cataract in my right eye but after this, I am very reluctant to have the surgery. I am looking for a new opthalmologist. This one routinely does cataract surgery. I am not your run-of-the-mill cataract patient.
Like most other Iritis sufferers, a cause has never been identified.
I am on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. If anyone knows of a good opthalmologist, please let me know.
Thanks.

Yes I do and she trained under doctor Foster. She is EXCELLENT and an ocular immunologist trained to get your uveitis stopped for good. her contact information can be found at http://www.uveitis.org in the Patient information section of the site on the USA SPECIALIST list. her name is DR Yang if I recall correctly.
you should RUN from you current doctor. to me that is malpractice to not tell a patient there is risk of uveitis (uveitis caused by trauma is a major reason for blindness by the way)
doctors pretreat the KNOW uveitis patient with corticosteroids and now they use Durezol before and after surgery.
please continue to post in the GENERAL DISCUSSION forum by clicking on BOARD INDEX, then select GENERAL DISCUSSION and click on that and start a new topic or join in an already existing one. I got uveitis at about sixteen and today I'm 60.
wish you the very best,
