Iritus

Post by Derek Cross »

Hello all

I was diagnosed with Iritus about 16 months ago, and in that time it has been a constant problem.
It is recurring, stop the drops and 3-4 days later it all flares up again.
Initially the problem was based on a possible toxioplasmosis infection and was treated as such, although I was not convinced on this at all.
Anyway, time, anti biotics, eyedrops passed by and i learned to live with and control the iritus.
About a month ago, pain arrived around the right eye and another visit to the eye doc was arranged, this time he felt that I was about to come out with Herpes Zoster, and treated me accordingly........everything has settled down once more and i am back to being in control once more.
He has advised me to have a full blown medical which i am in the middle of going thru, in the hope of finding out, what the hell is going on.
I will keep you all posted on the outcome of these tests and maybe it will help some of you.
As a added thought, I do have MS and i have always wondered if it is related, but the eye doc says that he feels that it is highly unlikely and he feels no, however, the doc who is on with the medical/blood tests etc was not so dismissive of MS being in someway conected with the iritus.
SO...guess its a wait and see.

Anyway, a big hello to you all from Minnesota

iritis and MS

Post by Mike Bartolatz »

Dear Derek,
there is a DIRECT LINK between Uveitis and Multiple Sclerosis. the HLA B15 haplotype is the genetic link. it most often presents with intermediate uveitis/parsplanitis but it can appear initially as anterior uveitis/iritis or posterior uveitis. retinal Vascularization can happen quickly with MS relate uveitis. Optic neuritis and a thing called Uhthoff's symptom can occur too. because of overheating, the demylinated optic nerve can shut down signals between the eye and the brain TEMPORARILY. vision loss is for a short period of time. demylination elsewhere in the body can cause transcient loss of function of limbs too so please try to not overdo and get body temperature too high. avoidance of hot tubs is essential to prevent this from occuring too.

please join the support group at http://pub24.ezboard.com/buveitissupportmeei
there are several individuals with Uveitis and MS there.

you need to get in to see and Ocular immunolgist to prevent loss of vision as once lost it is PERMANENT. proper control of uveitis will prevent such loss.

DR Opremcak or Dr Perez in Ohio are excellent choices and Dr Barney in Wisconsin is superb too. contact information can be found on our specialist link to http://www.uveitis.org

Wish you the best!
Most Sincerely,
Mike Bartolatz
