corticosteroid injections: youtube clips

often when one has chronic or recurrent uveitis, subtennon or intravitreal injections of corticosteroid are used to stop inflammation, the above link shows injection into the eye.
other clips show subtenon injection proceedures which are the normal means of stopping severe uveitis of various types.

over the years I have had many of these to stop my uveitis. they are much worse to think about or to watch on a video than they really are. I thought I would post this so that you can see what is involved. these are done in the office setting.

Mike,
Thank you for posting this. I have had iritis for 17 years. I can't even tell you how many times I have had the shots in the eye. When you tell people, they think you're crazy. Then they freak out. Personally, I would rather have the shot than have to do the drops forever. The shots help so much with the pain. I have to say, I was scared the first time. My first bout with iritis was bad because I was misdiagnosed by a stubborn family practitioner. I went blind in both eyes and the Opthalmologist that helped me said he would do anything and everything to help me get my eyesight back. I was 21 at the time and he wanted to help me see. He had a hard time (my eyes were both completely swollen shut) but he was finally able to give me the shot in both eyes. Like you said, the worst part is thinking about it. It only stings a little bit after they pull the needle out. I assume it is from the little bit of blood that gets in your eye. My Father and my husband are the only ones that have seen this done to me. Everyone else freaks out too much. To me, and probably you, it is just what has to be done. Thanks again.

have you seen an ocular immunologist who might be able to break the recurrent nature of your uveitis. please see the list of specialists at the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis foundation here in the USA at http://www.uveitis.org in the PATIENT information section of the site.
having had your eyes swell shut would indicate more than just iritis going on possiblly a form of cellulitis from a pathogen which then caused uveitis to occur. do you have a history of chickenpox or shingles?

wish you the best,
mike
