I'll see if I can find the correct link for this topic. our site crashed a couple of months ago and some things didn't work once we got the site relocated to another server. I thought I had corrected all links. thanks for telling us this link no longer works.

I should add other causes of eye pain.

trigemenal neuralgia can be caused by vascular compression of nerves in the brow and face. this is seen in Sjogren's syndrome and Systemic lupus erythematosus.
pain behind the eye can be caused by Posterior scleritis. tumor can also cause pain behind the eye from compression of nerves.
pain inside the eye can be caused by optic neuritis as well as by spasm of the muscle that opens and closes the people when the iris is stuck to the lens from inflammatory cells.
rarely glaucoma can cause pain but usually there is no pain associated with elevated pressure inside the eye. this is why we have to get our pressure checked frequently when we are on any form of corticosteroid.

do you have iritis? this causes your eye to turn 'red'. an aversion to light called photophobia can also be present. cells appear as 'floaters', kinda like pepper flakes on a piece of paper. they swirl around and can be annoying. often people swat at them thinking they are flies.
steroid eyedrops are used to treat iritis. dilating drops are also prescribed when the iris is inflammed because you can have spots of adhesion between the iris and the lens. this can prevent the iris from opening all the way. this adhesion often causes the cilary body to go into spasm (the iris is controlled by the cilary body). dilating drops relax the cilary body and the pain goes away.

I know several people who have floaters. They say it's extremely frustrating. I really feel for them. Does the eye drop that treats iritis also treat floaters? Or do floaters require a different medication? I would need to get some health insurance quotes before I could get prescription medication.

the eyedrop stops inflammation which causes the cells when they are caused by uveitis.

floaters can also be seen in extreme nearsightedness. bleeding inside the eye can cause them too.

Is it possible to have no eye pain? This 2nd bout i am having now doesn't really hurt - very mild ache at times but nothing like the first time I got it. I am treating with Durezol and have about 10-15 cells last visit four days ago. Is pred forte stronger than Durezol? Finally, I'm a little worried today as my vision in the iritis eye has gotten slightly cloudy today. I feel like this is what happened the first time when I whited out and lost vision in less than a full week due to misdiagnosis.

yes it is possible to have no eye pain especially if the inflammation is in the middle of the eye causing vitritis or pars planitis or posterior uveitis. Durezol is much stronger than pred forte but it works differently so it might be that pred would work better. Durezol is used for only a short period of time because it causes increase of pressure inside the eyes. it is to be used for only about 2 weeks from prescribing information for the drug. watch for rainbows around lights which is about the only symptom of glaucoma so if this appears get in right away to the Ophthalmologist.
white out of vision can be from diabetes, very low blood sugar levels as well as from very high blood sugar levels.
it can be from TIA and from overheating causing short circuit of the optic nerve in demyelinating disease.

cloudy vision can be from cataract formation and protein called 'flare' in the fluid inside the eye a result of increased inflammation.
usually accompanied with increase of cells or exudate along the pars plana or exuding from the posterior retina.

wish you the best,
Mike

Thanks for the reply mike. Is posterior uveitis or pan uveitis a more difficult thing to treat? I'm sitting here feeling like an idiot for going from a rare cell ten days ago to 4+. I had all the pain and eye sensitivity the first time i got it so for the past ten days I thought it was getting better since I have none of that now and the doctor sucker punches me with the 4+. Since she was not the doc that saw me last time, she tried to say that some doctors rate differently when she saw me panic (while some drs rate differently, you don't go from 10-15 cells to "too many to count" and call that an eye that has stayed the same). Sorry for the rant. I'm up due to the steroids and reading on the site makes me realize that the doctors need to read the charts and the history. 1st doc says one rare cell, I go back 3 days later, it's 10-15 cells and then 6 days after I'm at "too many to count". Now as I sit here thinking about the 1st time this happened and how they gave me the 7-day steroid pack which worked until I had to taper and then I had to go on prednisone for almost a year to get it under control. The shot in the eye did nothing at all according to Dr. Nguyen and he said he would have given me an iv of steroids to control it.

Sheesh I don't even know what questions to ask right now. I'm just dismayed how I let it get this bad after already having been through it.

I started seeing the little black flecks, not a lot and not all the time. The doc did day my kp was better. Need to look that up too. Thanks for the forum to vent.

Contact the doctor in DC immediately. the type of Keratic precipitates (KP's) can indicate potential underlying cause of the uveitis. posterior and Pan uveitis are almost always found to be related to something whether a pathogen or to an underlying systemic disease process. Ideopathic mean they haven't found the cause yet so don't allow it to be used as a diagnosis. Stay in the Hunt and so should your uveitis specialist doing whatever it takes to calm this stuff down and keeping it quiet in a steroid sparing approach to treatment if at all possible.
have you had any symptoms of optic neuritis of have new blood vessels started to grow over your retina? has sarcoidosis, Multiple sclerosis or systemic Lupus Erythematosus been tested for?

Thanks Mike. My PCP will call to see if he can get an earlier appointment with the DC doctor.

I went in again today and got the kenalog injection. For those out there who are scared of the actual shot, don't be - you really don't feel it because it's so numb. It does hurt afterward though. The spot where the dr gave me the injection is puffed up and my eyelid hits up against the puffed up spot so I just want to keep the eye closed. Also, putting drops in is pretty painful right now. I feel like I'm going to faint. Hopefully all of this is normal - I don't remember if I had this much post pain injection last time I did it four years ago.

Will keep y'all posted about the progress. Thanks!

For those wondering about the kenalog injection, it does hurt a lot a couple of hours after the shot and about a day after. Putting drops in after the injection is also very painful. I also had a little bubble on my eye where the injection went in. Every time I turned my eye, the bubble would push out and actually protrude out of the eye. It was only cool because I got to show my kids how gross it looked. Otherwise, I worried about it. The bump is gone now thankfully and that was about 2 days after the injection. So don't worry about the bump if you get it, it will go away.
