I'm a Newbie here!!

Post by Haryati »

Hi, I am Yati from Malaysia. Has been suffering from iritis on both eyes since late 2008 and has 3-4 times of remission. Just got over with my 4th bout this week. Still on Maxidex every 2 hrly on left eye and 4 hrly on right eye, Acular on both eyes 3 times a day, Atropine on both eyes 4 times a day and Timoptol on both eyes twice a day. My previous 3 opthalmologist did told me that it was inflammation but did not ask me to do further investigation. My 4th and current opthalmologist is more knowledgable as she ask me to do lots of blood test and chest x-ray. Chest x-ray result is clear, ANA shows high titre indicates autoimmune disease but anti ds-DNA comes back -ve and rheumatoid factor also -ve. Noted that my ESR is high at 40 mm/h . Now waiting for my HLA-B27 blood test result in another 2-3 weeks (they send the blood for testing to Australia). I am feeling down now..anticipating the blood test result...so scared what the future holds for me...Found this website and really helps me in understanding iritis and know that I'm not alone.
By the way, I'm on prednisolone now 60 mg per day for the first 3 days, down with 40 mg for the next 3 days, 10 mg for the next 3 days and 5 mg for the next 3 days. I have just complete the first course. Dunno what to expect...I dunno am I on the right track or not...As my previous experience with 3 opthalmologist were not really good I have difficulties in trusting one rite now..Anybody pls help???

Welcome to the group!
there is a specialist in the Philippenes, that you can contact and if you can get treatment through him. he will work with your local doctors.
his name is Dr Roque and he trained in the USA under DR Foster the top ocular immunologist in the World.

contact information can be found on the INTERNATIONAL specialist list at http://www.uveitis.org in the PATIENT information section of the site.

I've interacted with Dr Roque in the past and he helped me set up an online website for Pars planitis.

Get tested for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, since you are postive ANA and RF positive. the tests are: anti RO (ssa) and anti LA (ssb) and anti SM.

wish you the best,
mike
