Post by antfrn »

Hi,

My four year old daughter was diagnosed with iritis today. I'm really scared. I thought she had a case of pink eye. I've never even heard of iritis? Any advice?

Iritis in a Child

Post by Mike Bartolatz »

Iritis in a child can be difficult to control. that is why we suggest that an Ocular Immunolgist or Uveitis Specialst examin and suggest treatment. You may have to travel to see one of these rare specialists but they are willing to work with your local Opthalmologist, Pediatrician and if needed a rheumatologist. the sooner that One of these specialists become involved the better the outcome for you child.
As you might have already read, iritis is a very serious disease process especially in children. For some it can quickly lead to blindness if not controlled. I am NOT TRYINIG TO SCARE YOU! In many instances if properly treated little or no vision loss can be achieved. A steroid sparing approach is the best.
In our other forums there are links to information for parents. http://www.uveitis.org has a printable pamphlet that you can use to help your child and teachers understand what is going on with your childs disease process and how to accomodate their needs.
there is a PARENTS forum at the following link that I encourage you to join as they can help you through this:
http://pub24.ezboard.com/buveitissupportmeei
the above link is sponsored by Harvard University in Boston MA. and by C Stephen Foster MD an Ocular Immunologist, Professor and one heck of a nice guy!

We can help you much easier through that forum! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

Wish you the very best!
Sincerely,
Mike Bartolatz
