Re: Update from mike
Hi Mike, good to hear from you and sorry some issues have gotten worse for you. I just remember how kind you are. I was writing for awhile on behalf of my husband Tim who was diagnosed with autoimmune retinopathy and now has retired from seeing any retina specialists as he disagrees with them and ch...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR
Ann and Matilda, thank you for your feedback. My husband's eyes are a tad bit better with prescription sunglasses. I tend to agree that having some retesting done at the Casey Eye Institute would be a good idea and hope some day he will want to do that. Sorry I took so long to respond. I don't check...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR
Thanks for your reply and kind words. Right now he is "doctored out" but will be getting some prescription sun glasses which the optometrist thought might help a little. I sure haven't given up hope. There is a Dr. Heckenlively in Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have the wish of going to him if ...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR
So happy for you and the huge improvement you are experiencing. Thanks for posting. My husband had cataract surgery and it may have improved his vision just a little. His light sensitivity drives him crazy and the docs say that dry eyes causes that but no amount of drops has improved the light sensi...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR
Just wanted to give you an update on Tim. We continue to see Dr. Mark Dacey about every two months and he says Tim's eyes are remaining stable (meaning one eye is much better than the other). Tim is taking methetrexate (started that July 2013). He uses various drops for dry eyes and recently started...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR
Thanks, Mike. Your comments were helpful and I will pass along your good wishes. We do take walks around our retirement complex which he is familiar with now. He does worry about tripping and we are vigilant when we walk with him to anticipate what is ahead. I will pay more attention about preparati...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR
Hi everyone, Do you have any suggestions for hobbies or activities for people with poor vision. Tim likes to watch what he can see on TV. Reading is slow for him and he lacks patience for that. He has always loved the music of the 50's, too, and does listen to it. He once was involved in building a ...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR
Thanks, Mike. I always felt you were quite knowledgeable. We just saw Dr. Dacey and Tim's good eye is now 20/30 but he still the blind spots and the outside blurriness and whiteout. I saw a link about new drugs for the toxic side effects of Methetrexate but have not joined in order to read it. Oh, I...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR
Hi, My husband Tim has Autoimmune Retinopathy and I have been reading the Forum posts overseen by Mike Bartolatz. Tim's problem is unusual in that 3 years ago he had small cell cancer in a tumor in the heel/ankle of his foot. Small cell cancer with unknown origin is the diagnosis. It took 6 months t...
