Thanks for the hugs Mike. I was checked for celiac disease about 6 years ago and was clear. So unless I've developed it since..... I'll check out the H pylori connection.

Re: Confused
Hi Mike Saw Prof Ayliffe last week. Now on a steroid sparring treatment and he is going to contact my rheumatologist to treat both my AS and iritis together. Currently waiting to be approved for anti- TNF treatment. Not too great at present. Probs with pain in my ribs, hips, wrist and fingers. Also ...

Re: Confused
Thanks Mike for all your advice and help. I've arranged to see Prof Ayliffe next month when I'm next in London. Since as yet I've not been put on any medication specifically for the AS I feel I really need some good advice at the moment.

Re: Confused
Not actually under Prof Ayliffe as such. Went to see him privately in November (I live 200 miles away). But he did say I could go back when ever I felt like it. Seems now might be a good time. I don't have any discoloured nails thankfully. I have read that a low / no starch diet can help. What is yo...

Re: Confused
Hi Mike The only medication I'm on at present is diclofenac. Due to cost I can only have the anti TNF drugs if I'm really bad. I've been given info on methotrexate but no decision made yet. Really worried about the side effects. How commomn / rare are side effects with this drug? Currently my eyes a...

Re: Confused
Thanks Mike. Still can't believe I've finally been diagnosed with AS after all this time (I even remember being told a few years ago that I wouldn't have AS since it would have showed up before I was 30 and was mainly found in men). it was prof Ayliffe who recommended I see a rheumatologist so it's ...

Confused
After suffering repeated bouts of iritis for 10 years, I finally had the blood test for HLA-B27 done in December. Given a family history of ulcerative colitis it was expected to be positive. However, it was negative. Today however, I have been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis after x rays and b...

Re: iritis and exhaustion
Thanks Mike I'm seeing Dr Ayliffe next week. I'm getting more and more ill at the moment. Can't shake the exhaustion, the joints in my fingers, elbows and wrists are painful and work is becoming increasingly difficult. Left eye almost ok but right eye still very photophobic, vision keeps going blurr...

Re: iritis and exhaustion
Hi Mike
Yes I do have dry eyes. I have also been given lubricating eyedrops. Thought this might just be a side effect of predforte? Are the conditions you mention known possible complications of iritis or unrelated? A couple of years ago, I was also diagnosed with blepharitis.

Re: iritis and exhaustion
Thanks Mike. I'm going to get my doctor to refer me to Dr Ayliffe, privately to start with to get things moving and then hopefully I can continue treatment on the NHS. Maybe I should start another thread, but I have a couple of other questions to ask. Apparently, my eyes are now quiet, although I am...

I have seen many Specialists over the years, the way that i got in touch with them or found out about them was through alot of research using the Internet and ringing around alot of places to get names and started to go from there. I did realise that alot of doctors, that i was under at the time re...

Re: iritis and exhaustion
Thanks. I'm currently under the eye dept of the hallamshire hospital in sheffield. I think professor Rennie is the main doctor in charge of the uvetis clinic. Do you know anything about that department? Had lots of investigations when I was first diagnosed but all clear at that time(this was march 2...

iritis and exhaustion
Currently recovering from an attack in both eyes. Lost count of the number of times I've had this since my first bout nearly 10 years ago. The went through a longer than normal quiet period, but had two severe bouts in the last year (still, it used to be every 3/4 months!). I have noticed however th...

diabetes and iritis
As an autoimmunine disease, is type 1 diabetes linked to iritis? I ask this because as an iritis sufferer (with a parent with ulcerative colitis) I am concerned of the possibility of any children I have to be prone to diabetes or any other serious autoimmune condition. My husband has been diabetic s...

Coincidence or not?
I am just recovering from my most recent attack. This was my first real attack for 18 months, previously I had attacks every 3/4 months since my first diagnosis in 2000. I thought I was winning! Since this last attack I have had several other seemingly unrelated symptoms as well. My blood pressure h...
