Re: NSAID THERAPY in recurrent HLA B27 associated uveitis

Mike,
"They are now attempting to mount a double-masked, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial on this matter."
As this article was from 2005, any idea if they ever did mount the double-blind study and, if so, were there were any significant conclusions?

Re: Treating iritis too early?

Thanks for all the info. The comments on Durezol (by Dr Foster) seem promising, but I hear your sense of urgency regarding trying to get away from steroids entirely. Seems like PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) have their own risks regarding the heart. After 20 years of recurrent uveitis/iritis I've dro...

Re: Treating iritis too early?

Mike, Thanks for the link to Dr. Foster's Algorithm. With many of those posting here using Pred Forte I am surprised of the previously unknown (to me) Vexol Dr. F refers to. Do you have a personal view on Vexol versus Pred? I will ask my Doc about this. My concern about chronically taking Naproxen i...

Re: Treating iritis too early?

Mike, While I've got your ear...Are there really effective alternatives to steroids? Are you referring to taking systemic NSAIDs as the way to minimize iritis bouts and thus reduce the amount of steroid use? Or are there other alternatives you are referring to? I searched the forums to see if you've...

Re: Treating iritis too early?

Saw my eye Doc this afternoon for my left eye and only +1 cell, 16 IOP. Whenever a bout starts my modus operandi treatment is to take pred drops every 1-2 hours for a couple of days then very gradually phase out over a couple of weeks. If I catch it early enough the bout is usually cleared within 3 ...

Re: Treating iritis too early?

Yes, I am HLA B27 positive. I have never been big on systemic preventatives. Even when I almost lost my sight on my first bout almost 20 years ago I stuck with the injection (no pun intended) and localized drops of pred and dilating agent. My current eye Doc thinks that if I take a drop of Acular up...

Treating iritis too early?

Sorry to say it's been years since I last visited/posted this forum. So impressed that Mike is still at it. Kudos to you, Mike. I still have seasonal bouts of iritis that often come around the first week of March and in October (with rare bouts at other times). The seasonality is an issue in its own...
