Dr. in Dallas area

Post by MarianneB »

I have had recurring iritis for many years, it responds well to treatment but I need a Dr. in the Dallas area that is an expert (I've already been treated incorrectly twice). I would also like to see a Dr. that is perhaps involved in research (is there any non steroid treatment being researched?). I have had this since I was 12 years old. Thank you for this site. It looks great.

Doctor in Texas

Post by Mike Bartolatz »

recurrent uveitis can be related to many things. sometimes immunomodulating drugs like methotrexate can be used to get one to remission from recurrent and chronic uveitis.
there are doctor's who have an interest in uveitis in your area. click on the specialist forum link on the main page of this site. I think there is a doctor at Baylor who could help but I don't recall his name.
often uveitis related to children is related to Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (know referred to as Juvenile Ideopathic arthritis by the internation commitee)
please read about use of Methotrexate in Juveniles it is quite safe and the injecitible form has fewer side effects and seems to be better absorbed than the oral form.
other drugs alone or in combination can also get one to remission but it takes a VERY Dedicated and WELL TRAINED doctor to accomplish this. in states surrounding Texas there are Ocular Immunologists availabe to you. It might well be worth your while to travel to one of this doctors. DR Van Gelder in St Louis is excellent. DR Read in Alabama is excellent too. DR Vitale in Salt Lake City is one of the top Specialists.. DR Jaffe in North Caroline, DR RAo in LA and Opremcak in ohio and DR Perez in Ohio are great too. The very best is DR Foster in Boston and Dr Nussenblatt in Baltimore.

I hope this helps,
Mike

PS: we have a link to the glossary of terms at Harvard Medical School that I suggest you read through. it has hundreds of links to information. we also have TREATMENT algorithms for your consideration where this is explained a bit better than I can do msb
