recurrent iritis, reply to Mike Bartolatz

Post by alison batchelor »

Thanks for the reply. I was interested to see your suggestion that an infection from my injured lung might have triggered the first attack. I did indeed have an infection at the site of the chest drain. Thanks for offering to suggest a specialist in my locality. I live in Sheffield, England and are currently under a consultant at my local hospital although nothing is happening at present because my blood tests and X-rays have all been negative. I have read however that iritis can be linked to IBS which I have suffered bouts of for about 6 years. I now feel as if another attack of iritis is starting up and are having it checked out this afternoon. I have also recently started with a bout of IBS. Is this just a coincidence? Also, is there a link with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) which I also suffer from?

Best Wishes
Alison

IBS and uveitis

Post by Mike Bartolatz »

Irritable bowel disease. IBD is linked to uveitis. It is one of the HLA B27 haplotype disease processes. ARthritis can appear along with it too. For some individuals Remicade is used to control this. Crohn's disease is one of the disease processes associated with IBD. this is known as enteropathic arthropathies. A new study on crohn's suggests a link between Mycobacteria Avium Pneumonae, MAP a protein P36 and suggests treatment with the tetracycline family of drugs to stop it. I am not suggesting that this is the case with you. other pathogens trigger IBD and once the pathogen is irradicated then the uveitis is controlled much easier.
