I just got uveitis!

Post by Fairfax »

Hi! Please enlighten me!! I learned I had uveitis a week ago, after being diagnosed with scleritis a week before that. My symptoms have included eye pain (about to burst), redness, blurriness and terrible headache. I am currently taking pred forte drops (hourly), and homatropine (2-3 x day). The pain has pretty much subsided, the eye remains blurry, and the redness is improving. The opthamalogist is vague and I have so many questions . . . should I read, watch t.v., work. He said there is some scar tissue and the beginning development of a cataract, and that he is trying to prevent further formation of cataract and of glaucoma. What should I expect? Any input for me? I'm not really sure how impaired I am or will be. Thanks for your help and/or suggestions/comments.

I am sorry it has takem me so long to welcome you to the group. my computer network crashed and I was unable to respond sooner, I was writing a response to you when it went out.

youi should be able to do most things if you use dark glasses while on the computer and increase the font size of characters on the screen. if you wear glasses, consider buying some 'fit over' sunglasses that have polarized lenses. these cost abouit 20 dollars at the local drug store. ask for the 'cataract' sunglasses. make sure they fit snuggly to your face to prevent light from reflecting off of your face and lenses. wear a hat with a brim outside. it will take several days for the blur of vision to go away once you are off of the dilating drops so be patient. your vision should return to about where it was before you got the iritis.

if possible get in to see a Uveitis specialist as the combination of scleritis and uveitis would indicate that an underlying autoimmune disease is present. sometimes symptoms of autoimmune conditions first appear as eye disease and the underlying cause can take several years to present.
have you been tested for any of the common causes of scleritis and uveitis?

Wish you the very best,
Mike
