IRITIS

Post by ssommerv »

I have recently had am incidence of Iritis 7 my specialist has identified that the cause was a herpes infection. He took a photograph of the Herpes dendrite. This was treated by the use of a Zovirax eye ointment & a drug used by some doctors to treat genital herpes. This drug in Australia is generally only available on the PBS for those afflicted by genital herpes & is not readily available to people like myself.
I have also been advised by another specialist who filled in for my own that the overuse of Prednefrin Forte can cause Glaucoma from which I would appreciate some return comment.
I have managed my iritis using an eye wash from my Naturopath which has no side affects but it is difficult to get anyone to take me seriously & investigate why or how it works. Comment re this would also be appreciated.

herpes Sx uveitis can be a very stubborn form of uveitis. the antiviral drugs used to treat this are imperative since the virus can move up a nerve and into the back of the eye. this can be a BLIINDING SITUATION WITH RESULATANT RETINAL NECROSIS, DEATH OF THE RETINA OCCURING.
often drugs for uveitis are used OFF LABEL because of the rarity of it. here in the USA there is what is known as an ORPHAN DRUG LIST and any drug on the list can be used to treat uveitis.
contact your opthalmologist and have him call the insurance and pharmacy to indicate the severity of the situation and that it is appropriate to use the oral antiviral drugs for your form of uveitis.

yes constant use of corticosteroids can lead to things such as cataracts and glaucoma but with herpes viral uveitis BOTH the antiviral medication and some of the topical corticosteroid is often needed to keep the virus quiet. failure to use the drugs can allow it to come back and cause the mischief that I mentioned earlier as acute retinal necrosis or ARN. do a search on this topic, herpes viral uveitis and Acute retinal necrosis. provide the articles to your insurance and your pharmacist and other doctors that you might have (not your opthalmologist since he/she is aware of MODERN treatment of your forum of uveitis)

Wishing you quiet eyes,
Mike

wish you the very best,
Mike
