diagnosis of iritis

Post by guest »

Hey Mike,

Is it possible to diagnosis iritis when it isn't flared up?My doctor gave me the pred. drops but no diagnosis and said to come back when flared up.My last flare was in Nov. and couldn't get an appt until just last week. I also have IBD and a self diagnosis of spondylitis. The rhuemy Dr. told me to get off the pred and come back in 3 mos. It seems the pred. has kept these diseases in check until now when I'm tapering down. I'm dealing w/ the VA and that could be my biggest problem. Now they got me hopeing for a flare up of iritis so I can get a diagnosis, it's watering and sore now................

I would assume that you have iriits related to the IBD or to Ankylosing spondylitis. Have your primary care physician test for the HLA B27 haplotype.
if you go to the related conditions forum there is a link to the ENTEROPATHIC ARTHROPATHIES. there is also a link to information on IBD and the seronegative spondyloarthropathies (AS) at uveitis.org.

sometimes the patient will know that their eyes are about to act up BEFORE it can be seen by the opthalmologist through the slit lamp. a couple of days later cells and flare are present.

the main thing is to make sure you treat the uveitis quickly as damage from inflammation can be very quick. that is why the doctor gave you the steroid eye drops, so you could go ahead and start them. Your appointment schedule even with the VA should be on an as needed basis. I too am treated by the Veteran's Administratiion and can walk into the eye clinic at ANY time should I feel that my eyes are starting to act up in ANY WAY.

Often the VA will send you to an UVEITIS SPECIALIST for a consultation. they would then suggest testing and treament changes for your related conditions and for the uveitis.

Where are you located????

Wish you the best!
Sincerely,
