Good morning. Thanks for the opportunity to join this community.
Woke this morning to the beginning stages...again....and out of frustration for answers found this site.
Please excuse my lack of medical knowledge but here is my story.
Brief history: Recurring left eye uveitis (counting this one) 5 times in 3 years with a terrible outbreak in Fall of 06 leaving me with a cataract to deal with.
Uncle on Father's side has same condition. Only other root cause possibility seems to be diagnosis of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (30 years ago) with no sign of arthritis since.
Live in a small community in Alabama so availability of experts is sparse at best.
Looking at UAB (University of Alabama-Birmingham) this time. Hopefully someone at the Eye Foundation there can help.

Question: Has anyone ever related recurrence to stress or stressful situations?

Thanks again for the opportunity to post.

Welcome to the group.

there is a direct linke between JRA and iridocyclitis and iritis. this is an autoimmune disease and can be difficult to control in some individuals. drugs like Remicade and Humira seem to help keep the inflammation at bayif NSAID therapy doens't work to keep the iritis quiet.

There is DR Russel Read at the University of Alabama in Birmingham who is an excellent ocular immunologist., Please contact him. contact information can be found at http://www.uveitis.org in the Patient information section of the site. go to the USA Specialist list.

Jess our other moderator has JRA related uveitis and can help you through this.

I'll send her a note that you are now here and she can greet you,

wishing you the very best,
Mike

Hi, welcome to the group!

I was dxed with Juvenile-Onset Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 2, and the iritis reared it's ugly head at age 4. My JRA has never really been severe, and since the age of 18 (I am now 35), I have had no symptoms from the arthritis.

JRA-related iritis is typically VERY stubborn, I am on immune suppressants, originally to keep me in remission. I am pregnant now, so what I take has changed.....

What put me into remission was a mix of methotrexate (mtx) and Remicade infusions. Remicade is my miracle drug.....

Stress can definitely keep your immune system into high gear, thus increasing your chances of flareups of the iritis. I am a Type A personality, and definitely see a difference during stressful times.
