Can't remember name of med

Post by refinnej30 »

I saw Dr. Foster last week and he said I had a house fire (Iritis) in my eye due to nose surgery and stress/how my brain is wired. He told me we had 4 options stronger drops (than pred forte), eye injection, 2 days of iv steroids or oral steroids. I chose the eye injection.

Been on Pred Forte hourly (my eye is really cloudy) for 2 weeks now and he gave me an injection right under the flared eye on the 11th. Helped a little, pain left after about 4 days. Eye is still red, still have floaters and a light flash every so often. I am trying to remember the name of the drop he said was stronger than pred forte. I want to check to see if I can get an exception for my insurance to cover it. He said there was no generic and insurances don't often cover it. I have a call in to Dr. Foster to see what the next step is. I think I would prefer the steroid iv because I don't want the side effects of the oral steroids.

I guess my question is if the eye injection didn't calm it, will the steroid iv? Do I need to think about immunosuppresants now? He didn't mention them, but I guess I want to make sure I get whatever treatment I need. My issue is we are moving 1500 miles in 6 weeks (it's for my husbands military orders so delay isn't really an option) and I'm in my last few weeks of college. So I need to get drs. set up in St. Petersburg, FL for mid June to continue care. I know there is an Ocular Immunologist. I'm not stressing, just want to get the facts that I might have misunderstood (Usually I take notes, but this flare was so bad it hurt too much write) from Doctor Foster.

Thank you for your help!

yes the topical eyedrop is DUREZOL but it is to be used only for a couple of weeks as it can raise pressure quickly in the eye.

DR Pérez and DR Davis are the specialists in Florida.

Perez trained under Dr Foster and would be a good choice to work with him from afar.
get this bout under control and then worry about IMT down the line, right now getting inflammation under control is key to persevering vision. watch the flashing lights for an increase in floaters as this can be a symptom of vitreous detachment with bleeding. get in immediately if this occurs.

Durezol is the only drug approved to treat uveitis, even pred forte is used off label as it has never undergone specific studies to get it approved by the FDA. you can fight your insurance because of this. it is not in the same class as steroids either being an entirely new class of medication.

take care,
Mike
