light sensitivity

Post by 4321 »

I had Blepharitis early this year and was on tobradex once a day for 6 weeks. Went back and he said it looked good. Then I got Iritis and was treated in emerg. by a Dr. who put me on Tobradex. I was on it 4xday for one week, then to taper off 3,2,1 a week. It was still bad, so he put me back on 4xday for 2 weeks. It has gone, but I am left with pretty extreme light sensitivity. I have been off the Tobradex for 9 days but it does not seem to be improving. I also have Bletharitis (chronic) but am only doing the hot compresses and massaging along lids.
Does anyone have a comment? Will the sensitivity improve with time off Tobradex? I know this is a little off topic from Iritis, but maybe some of you also have Blepharitis.
Thanks for any feedback. I am beginning to be very worried.

The key to getting the blepharitis under control it to start using lubricating eyedrops to help to correct the tearfilm. usually doxycycline is used for it's anti inflammatory properties as well as for it's antibiotic properties, it seems like it is now time to look into why you have this. Uveitis along with severe dry eyes with possibly corneal inflammation causing photophobia or ther iritis causing the photophobia might suggest things to test for.
do you have ANA positive blood serum? do you have severe dry mouth too? does anyone in your family have an autoimmune disease, connective tissue disease process, Arthritis, Sarcoidosis, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis? have you been checked for LYME disease if in a lyme area?
there is a list of specialists at http://www.uveitis.org Patient information section of the site. I suggest you get a consultation with one of them to figure out what is going on with you and to then treat this with a corticosteroid sparing approach to treatment.

Take care,
mike
