Brand new to uveitis diagnosis

Post by Fairfax »

Does anyone know of a uveitis specialist who is covered by donations/grants and can accept a patient without medical insurance? No harm in asking!

I"m sorry I do not know of anyone. if you are low income, you may qualify for medicade so check with your state agencies.
if you are in Maryland, you could see if you could be seen by the National eye Insitute in Bethesda, Maryland. there are ongoing 'trials' there for some medications that if you qualify, you could be seen by one of the Uveitis Specialists there. Trials are ongoing throughout the USA at various locations for which you might qualify as well.
wish you the best,
mike

I don't know of anyone, either. Get in touch with your local Lion's Club, and ask what they can do. Use info from this site, as well as UOSG ( Uveitis Online Support Group), to help you explain how dangerous this disease is. If they can't help, they may know someone who can help. If not, try arranging a payment plan with your local specialist. They are usually pretty good about that if you let them know you have no insurance, because they know how few docs PROPERLY treat this problem. If you belong to a religious or spiritual group, perhaps they will take up a collection if you speak with someone there and explain the situation. Make sure they know this will be an ongoing issue, as it can take YEARS to get this problem straight.

Good Luck,

Mary
