how did i get this

Post by TravisD »

Hello my name is Travis and im 25yrs old. I was diagnosed a 2weeks ago. it started like a sinus headache and just got worse till my eye started turning red. and then light began to make my eye burn and hurt. I really noticed it at night when I had the lights turned off and then walked into a room and then turned the light on it almost brought me to my knees. Then i went to the local urgent care where the said their was a great pressure build up in my eye and I was out of their realm of expertice. The optomologist saw me the next mornig he had prescribed one to dilate and one for redness. I havent had any pain since the drops but i went back a week later and he said the pressure had went down but he couldn't tell me the cause or a how to prevent this. he just said it was a serious condition and he wanted to keep a close eye on it. I guess im a little concered because ive been realitivly heathy for along time and im a little overweight but not extreme. what are the chances of this coming back and is condition sometimes totally sporatic and for no reason any advise would be great.

Uveitis

Post by Mike Bartolatz »

Please contact Dr Van Gelder there in Missouri.

elevated IOP due to iritis is not normally seen with an INITIAL bout of the disease process. what happens is the cells clog the trabecular meshwork and cause elevated IOP. STeroids can cause elevated IOP too so a specialist will need to be involved to get you through this inflammatory process and initiate a steroid sparing approach to treatment if at all possible.
uveitis often presents in individuals in their 20's as young adults. It can also be related to childhood diseases too like Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthrtitis. it can also be related to the sero negative spondyloarthroptahies and the enteropathic arthropathies. some viruses and other pathogens can cause this too. Input from an EXPERT would be well advised since you already have a serious problem with intra ocular pressure. Glaucoma and cataracts are a long term effect of inadequately treated uveitis. other potentially blinding consequences can occur.

I hope this helps,

I feel your pain`

Post by Kes1561 »

Hi Travis,

I'm new to this problem too. I'm older than you and a bit overweight. I understand the pain from the lights. The day that my eye pain was the worst the lights were hurting me so badly. I made it through work then went home, turned out all the lights, closed all the blinds in the house and only had on the tv. I laid down and just kept my eyes closed. I went to my optometrist the next morning and got my diagnosis.

The pain is gone, thank God, but I can still see a few of the swollen cells in my left eye. This is making me nuts.

I just wanted to offer support as we are both new to this.

Best of luck!
Kes
