TOPICS NOT TO BE DISCUSSED HERE

Post by Mike Bartolatz » Wed Mar 25, 2009 4:21 pm

ALL INFORMATION AT THIS SITE IS PEER REVIEWED PUBLISHED INFORMATION FROM REPUTABLE SOURCES.

TOPICS NOT TO BE DISCUSSED HERE ARE 'ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE' RELATED TO TREATMENT AND DIAGNOSIS OF OCULAR INFLAMMATORY DISEASE PROCESSES. THESE INCLUDE: CHINEESE MEDICINE, HERBAL MEDICINE, ACCUPUNCTURE, CHELATION THERAPY, AMALGAM FILLINGS ETC AS WELL AS QUESTIONABLE OTHER TOPICS THAT THE ADMINISTRATOR AND MODERATORS FEEL ARE INAPPROPRIATE AND DIETS OTHER THAN ONES WHICH THE NATIONAL INSITUTE OF HEALTH OF THE USA HAS FOUND TO BE CREDIBLE. SOME VITAMIN AND MINERAL AND OMEGA THREE FATTY ACIDS CAN BE DISCUSSED BUT ONLY IF FOUND TO BE APPROPRIATE BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUE OF HEALTH, NATIONAL EYE INSTITUTE.

BY DEFINITION, ALTERNATIVE TO CORTICOSTEROID FOR PURPOSES AT THIS SITE MEANS THE USE OF MEDICATIONS THAT LOWER INFLAMMATATON OR DOWNREGULATE VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM SO THAT A CORTICOSTEROID SPARING APPROACH TO TREATMENT CAN BE USED BY OCULAR INFLAMMATORY DISEASE SPECIALISTS. THESE INCLUDE THE USE OF NON STEROIDAL ANTI INFLAMMATORY MEDICATIONS, NSAIDS, DISEASE MODIFYING ANTI RHEUMATIC DRUGS, DMARD, BIOLOGICAL RESPONSE MODIFYING DRUGS AS WELL AS OTHER CLASSES OF MEDICATIONS TO QUELL SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATION.

ALTERNATIVE TO CORTICOSTEROID DOESN'T MEAN ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AS DEFINED ABOVE.

YOU WILL BE GIVEN THREE WARNINGS AFTER WHICH YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM THIS SITE

I cannot recommend or endorse the use of 'alternative medicine' in care of individuals with ocular inflammatory disease processes. there are no double blind placebo controlled studies showing the efficacy of these products. there is no control in what is actually in the products and some may do harm.

uveitis is the third leading cause of blindness in the Developed World. we recommend that anyone with recurrent or chronic uveitis get a true specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular inflammatory disease involved in their care to prevent the very serious consequences of under treatment or improper treatment of these conditions.

by joining this site you have agreed to these standards. if you cannot live by them you cannot post here.

Mike,
You contacted me in relation to the eye wash that I use to manage my iritis wanting to know what is in it. The eye wash is made up of 3 equal solutions of Calendula, Witch Hazel & Eyes Bright from which you put 15 drops into 150 ml water. When I feel an attack coming on I bathe the eye for about 30 seconds. Where I do not make a declaration that this is the answer to Iritis I will say that it has helped me & I would like to see a controlled trial to see if it can work for others. I have not divorced myself from my Specialist as I need to get my eye checked regularly.
I have recently had to attend my Doctor due to a sever attack that my eyewash did not help greatly & it was found that I had a Herpes Dendrite which my doctor believes was the original cause of my Iritis & I wonder if you have heard of this.

Thanks,
Steve

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=he ... h&aq=f&oq=

above is a general search on herpes dendrite which is part of a corneal disease associated with this virus. oral antiviral medications are required to control (I didn't say cure) viral uveitis along with corticosteroid eye drops. when the virus attacks the cornea it can ulcer easily and then you have a very serious problem.

herpes related uveitis is VERY serious stuff. the inflammatory cells can encircle the pupil causing 360 deg. attachment between the iris and lens and a very serious form of glaucoma can ensue. if the virus goes up one of the nerves to the back of the eye, it can attack the retina and it can cause Acute Retinal Necrosis, a blinding condition.
there are no alternative but to take oral antiviral meds such as acyclovir, valacyclovir or famavir daily for perhaps the rest of your life to control this virus.

http://www.uveitis.org/patients/educati ... e-medicine
talks about some 'natural biologicals' that do help with treatment in uveitis patients .
it also explains how these things work to suppress inflammatory disease processes.
