Coming off Pred Forte

Post by Mushroom1975 »

Hi,
I was diagnosed with Iritis in my left eye 3 weeks ago after thinking it was dry eye, I eventually went to the optician 7 days later. Redness, light sensitive, watery eye, had to keep it shut etc.
I was given dilating drops and steroid drops for a week, redness and soreness went away pretty quickly.
After being off of the steroid drops for a week, I noticed my eye was sore and sensitive to what seemed to be air this timefor some reason. As a precaution my optician asked me to go back on Pred Forte again for another week.
I’m just about to go down to 1 Pred Forte drop per day for 2 days before stopping on my 2nd course of steroid drops, again I’m getting an achy eye which seems sore when I move my eye in certain directions. It’s not red or bloodshot like when I first got it though, my question is this normal due to my eye weaning off of my 2nd course of steroid drops in 3 weeks or does this mean my left eye still has Iritis in it and I’ve not been given the correct dose of drops to get rid of it? I did go to an Eye specialist last week who said I had trace of Uveitis cells in it but I thought a week of steroid drops would’ve got rid of it.
Thanks

I have not experienced soreness coming off topical steroids.
Denial will cloud your judgment about this. Week is not very long. Trial and error is the only way to find the right dose. With mild iritis, it isn't that urgent to race back to doctor. You will get used to this after awhile. Take care.

Unfortunately, nobody w mild iritis ever posts. I assume because it is not very serious.

Ok thanks for the advice
First day back at work, my left eye is killing me again, I’m continuing to put my lubricating drops in my eye.
I’m sure this is dry eye I have again (before Iritis) as it isn’t light sensitive but appears to have got worse due to sitting in front of computer screens all day. I will leave it a few days, if it doesn’t clear I will go and see the optician again.
Trying to understand what what the difference between severe dry eye or mild Iritis is proving rather difficult

Subtle changes in red is my first hint. The red area is usually slightly sore. I don't feel pain even when a synechiae forms and releases. No pain when shine light in opposite eye to move iris in suspect eye. Looking at bright white sky I see the flare. Looks like smoke. The cells are more subtle.smaller than the floaters. Foggy vision is important sign. I can see flare before I notice blurred vision. Photophobia is pretty subtle for me.

If eye is killing u, a good test might b flashing light in good eye while suspect I is closed. This moves ciliary muscle and iris in suspect eye. Everybody seems different on symptoms though especially mild vs severe iritis.
