seeing floaters?

Post by vancouver »

Mostly round grey bubbles but a few dark shrapnel shaped floaters. Vision has not changed and no other symptoms. Im on pred forte once per day for acute anterior uveitis. Its idiopathic. Told not to get blood test. I have a synechiae. Is this a result of steroids? If so, how does steroid cause floater?
Thanks.

Hi there, I was diagnosed Monday with acute bilateral anterior iritis and I have them too. I also have posterior vitreous detachment which causes floaters, so hard to tell what is what. But, more came since the iritis.

Mine,i think, is severe bc i lose almost all sight in the affected eye. The proteins and wbc's in the acqueous is what causes the vision to go.

My iritis and most iritis is self limiting. It stops on its own. My first case was about week long and i did not go to doctor. Current case was 2 weeks but
I did not go to doc until day 16. I guess there was some inflammation that lingered. Doc put me on
Maxidex 24 times per day fir 30 days. Anyway, they have to be aggressive to train immune system.

Your attack sound very mild. The eye is not being damaged. You just need to take steroids to train immune system. I would not worry about things at the moment. Theres no risk of glaucoma, synechiae, cataracts . Cararacts can develop
If you are on steroids for yrs but cataract surgery is not big deal now.

Stress is a trigger for me and lots of people. Smoking also. Its puts you past tipping point.
So diet and stress should not be ignored.
Anything that stresses or annoys eye could potentially be a factor. Steroids though are the miracle drug.

Im doing fine . Im hoping you stop worrying and
Your flare up stops soon.:)

Hi, i did have the synchiae in both eyes. I had to be on dilating drops for 5 days. My vision was so blurry from the inflammation and dilating drops. i couldn't drive or function well. My cells were 1+ in each eye, which i guess is not that bad. But, i also had flashing/ fkickering in left eye from retina being irritated he said. And my right eye was so painful. Slowly improving. On 5 drops Durezol a day and hoping to go lower next week. I was on 8 drops a day for 2 weeks. How are you doing?

Doctor said my eyes were fine. Still on 1 drop of prednisolone 1% for maintenance. I had two major episodes of iritis before going to doctor ,four years apart. I guess the steroid trains eye and lower chance of recurrence. Durezol sounds interesting
It tests better than prednisolone which is the standard treatment. My vision is fully recovered despite permanent synechiae. Surprising how long it took for vision to recover after stopping drugs. I gained another line on eye chart after months ,inexplicably. Hope your pain subsides:)

Durezol can cause glaucoma to occur within a couple of weeks. it does calm inflammation quickly in some individuals but when one has recurrent or chronic uveitis the goal is to get you 'off all steroids without inflammation' and then move on to other medications to keep the eye quiet. underlying systemic inflammation or infection must also be controlled and is why we stress testing to find an underlying cause. if one has a bacterial infection, antibiotics have to be used. if a virus such as the herpes virus is involved, then an anti viral has to be added. if it is linked to the HLA B27 haplotype, then NSAIDs can be added such as Celebrex, Dolobid or naproxen. and if one doesn't respond to these meds from an inflammatory or other autoimmune disease then drugs such as methotrexate, Cellcept or Imuran alone or in combination with other classes of drugs such as Humira, Remicade are used and if one has the IL23R receptor that is indicated as a cause of many inflammatory diseases such as plaque psoriasis, then either Stelara or Cosentyx can be prescribed. we suggest that an Ocular immunologist or uveitis specialist who has done extensive training in uveitis, not just an ophthalmologist with an 'interest' in uveitis be involved in the care of anyone with chronic or recurrent uveitis because steroids over time can cause a lot of damage to the body and the eye. glaucoma and cataracts can form for example. bleeding can occur and oral steroids can also lead to bone loss, tissue death and other systemic issues.

wishing you the very best,
Mike

I just saw uveitis specialist yesterday and my pressures are good. I am tapering on the Durezol as we speak. I see doc again in 3 weeks. This is my first iritis bout and all my bloodwork etc. came out negative. But, i have psoriasis and Hashi thyroid as well as low B12. So far not chronic. Keeping fingers crossed i get thru this. My husband gets iritis too, he has ankylosing spondylitis. What a pair we are. A few years ago he had a very bad flare up that caused a retinal cyst. But, it finally resolved and his vision was not compromised. His eyes have been quiet for 3 years after 4 bouts in a row.
