Re: "Retrain" immune system

the HLA B27 haplotype is linked to psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and to the GI problems Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, OR you can just have uveitis, it isn't set in stone that you will get one of the above conditions. you can also get other conditions even though they...

Re: Introduce yourself

Are you seeing DR Rosenbaum at Casey eye institute? or Eric Suhler? they are the uveitis specialists at Casey. they would be the ones to implement a corticosteroid sparing approach to treatment. are you HLA B27 positive? does anyone in your immediate family have an inflammatory disease or autoimmune...

we aren't doctors so I suggest you ask this question of DR Foster at his website above. Autoimmune retinopathy is very rare but there are blood tests for it as you have indicated in your post.

Wish you the very best,
Mike

Re: Iritis and possible Trigeminal Neuralgia

is your iritis recurrent, tapering off steroids and then returning? do you have cold sores or did you have chicken pox as a child? the herpes family of viruses can cause iritis and trigeminal neuralgia. autoimmune hepatitis can sometimes appear along with uveitis. sarcoidosis, Sjogren's syndrome, sy...

Re: Posterior uveitis

Sarah, Welcome to the group! posterior uveitis can be linked to pathogens as well as to systemic disease. how it appears in the eye gives the uveitis specialist probable diagnosis and treatment can then begin. I assume you are on oral steroids at this time for this. the systemic symptoms you mention...

Re: Persistent symptoms

Welcome to the group! it can take several weeks for the medications to get out of your system and the blur of vision to resolve. this is especially true when one is on dilating drops. why did you develop elevated pressure? is the uveitis in only one eye? was there a lot of synechia present in your e...

Re: re-occurence

it could well be that you have a systemic underlying cause or the HLA B27 gene causing your recurrent uveitis, sometimes adding an NSAID such as Celebrex, Dolobid or Naproxen at Prescription strength UNDER THE CARE OF A MEDICAL DOCTOR, can break the recurrent nature of this type of uveitis. it can t...

Re: Newbie: Iritis with very cloudy vision - how bad is it?

how did your appointment go with the ophthalmologist? it might be that you have HLA B27 related uveitis causing the back pain from ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis. all can have forms of arthritis to include the low back pain. if ne...

Re: New member - My story so far

Jo, have you ever had cold sores on your lips, nose or in your mouth? the herpes sx virus often causes a lot of adhesion and is difficult to quiet down. it usually only impacts one eye. you would require antiviral meds and one drop of pred forte a day to control it and to keep it in hibernation. a c...

Re: New Member

First of all welcome to the group! there are many causes of iritis, often they are linked to viruses and autoimmune diseases. when it is recurrent and no cause can be easily determined, you have to move on to other classes of medications called DMARD drugs to down regulate your immune system so that...

Re: Ankylosing Spondalytis diagnosis and chronic iritis

Welcome to the group! usually they have to start you on a DMARD drug such as methotrexate, Cellcept or Imuran before insurance will pay for a TNF A blocking drug to be added to the DMARD drug for best results. Enbrel is useless for iritis too. Remicade or Humira are better choices for a TNF A blocki...

Re: Low dose prednisone

your situation is not a normal form of iritis and it requires extra vigilance on your part to prevent potential vision threatening damage to the retina if it gets to it. normally one would want a steroid sparing approach to treatment with recurrent or chronic uveitis from inflammation not caused by ...
