Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Mike, Did you have uveitis when you had the cataract surgery? I have a large cataract that I will be seeing a cornea doctor for in the near future. I'll be seeing Dr. Stark at Hopkins. I'm nervous about it although I don't even know if he'll do it since I've had varying opinions on whether I should ...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

That makes sense what you say. Try what is known to work first. I do hope, as you do, that there will be some breakthrough for this disease. Keep us updated. Think positive.

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

I started back on rituxan last month but I'm sorry to report my vision continues its downward decline because of AIR. Last year I tried cyclosporine with the prednisone but that didn't work either for me. My central vision is affected. Everything seems to be getting whiter with loss of contrast. But...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Thanks so much, Mike. I cannot tell you how relieved I was to find this site and information. Thank you so much for what you do. My retina specialist was deciding between referring me to Heckenlively or NEI/Nussenblatt who he has worked with before at NEI. Ultimately, he chose NEI for the benefit o...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Thank you Bobi. Did you take the other two pills at the same time too? And may I please know how long you took the 40mg for? The 5mg sounds low to me too. Regards, Wolfman I took cyclosporin with the prednisone. But, before that, I had a Rituximab infusion which is supposed to be the strongest drug...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

I was taking 40mg of prednisone a day for AIR. 5 mg does not sound like nearly enough.

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi Ron, I also have AIR. I've gone through 2 Riuxuimab treatments (4 infusions)at the NIH in MD. These have not worked for me. I'm now on cyclosporine and am hoping for the best with that drug. My vision has continued to deteriorate since 2008 with the last 6 months being the worst. I have some cent...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi Matias,

Welcome to this forum. In one respect, you're lucky they were able to diagnose you so you can attempt to get the drugs you need. I have AIR and it is not a fun disease.I'm currently using rituxan (rituximab). Feel free to ask any questions here.

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

thanks for the updates Gals! Bobi, they usually wait until vision is at about 20/80 or so to do cataract surgery when one has a history of autoimmune eye disease as the trauma of the surgery can cause inflammation. pretreatment with corticosteroids is usually done. now Durezol is available to pre t...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Lynn, I have been thinking of you and wondering how you are doing. I'm glad you posted. The next time you start the cyclosporine again, I hope you will have a better time of it. I know what you mean you you say you don't know if things are stabilized. It's hard to tell sometimes. Yesterday I had the...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Sorry to hear this, Mike. But it sounds like this neuro really will take ownership of trying to find out what is really causing these problems. It has been a long haul for you and not fun, I know. Continue the updates. We do care.

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

That is definitely the right idea, Mike. Go to the ER definitely if it happens again. Yo ur family history certainly would make you sit up and take notice when it comes to vision issues. Glad things appear to be back to normal though and, who knows, maybe it will stay that way. We'll keep our finger...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Mike,

That's a disappointment. At least you don't have to wait too long until the 23rd although it probably seems like an eternity. Good luck on the 23rd. I hope you get some good news at least on the optic nerve front.

Mike,

Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how you do. It was a long and stressful wait, I know, but maybe this time you will finally have some answers.
