Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Good evening, All, Just a brief message. It seems to have been some time since any of you have posted on the site. I've not heard anything regarding Mike and I hope he as well as the rest of you are doing alright. About 3 weeks ago ERG and VER/P tests were performed on me at UAB in B'ham. The tests ...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Good morning, All, Mike, Yes, "off label" was discussed at the NIH as to what options were available. Dr. Sen of the NIH and Dr. Read met at a conference in Florida just after my visit to the NIH. They discussed my case and the current treatment is what was decided on. Dr. Read wants to gi...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Thanks, Mike! I hope all goes well for you. I saw Dr. Read today and he said it will be a couple of more months before the ERG and VER are done. He wants to give the IST a chance to work. I finished the Prednisone today and in a couple of days I'll start the cyclosporine again per my rheumatologist....

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Good morning, All! I haven't posted in a while but outside all the testing and the drugs I've had nothing to really report. All of you know about the side effects of the meds. I've been on mycophenolate, cyclosporine, and Prednisone for some months. I had a baseline of ERG/VER at the start of the IS...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Good morning, All! It's been a while since I last posted and a lot has gone on. I was examined by Dr. Foster and his staff at MERSI, the NIH/NEI for evaluation to see if I am a candidate for the Rituximab trial, and Dr. Read of UAB in Birmingham. Basically the results has been they all believe I hav...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Good afternoon, All! Mike, thanks for the info you provide us with on this site. Here's an update on me. I had a consultation with Dr. Jampol in Chicago and he was very straightforward about the disease. Of course we discussed IST and he brought up Plasmapheresis as his first choice of treatment. Hi...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Thanks, Mike for the information. My blood work test results from the Ocular Immunology Laboratory at Casey Eye Institute did indicate the markers for AIR. I have wondered if something else might be going on in addition to the AIR. I developed the photophobia about 19 months ago and it was slow at f...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

If anyone with AIR has gone through the IVIG treatment or the immunosuppressant oral drug therapy, I would like to hear about your results. The use of the "chemo" drugs is very intimidating to me but I have heard that there have been some positive results using them. I don't know what kind...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Thanks for the info, Mike! I've been examined by a dozen opth/retina doctors and uveitis has never been mentioned. All have said that everything in the eyes look normal, even the vitreous. Many, many OCT scans proved to be normal and finally the ERG showed abnormalities which was translated to AIR. ...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Good afternoon, All! I'm new to the group. I have been recently diagnosed with AIR. My husband is posting this for me since it appears my cones have been affected moreso than my rods. I have EXTREME photophobia and even the amount of glare from the computer screen is too painful for me to be on the ...
