Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Interesting case from Dr Chen out of Australia who has just received an inheritance from a couple where the wife had autoimmune retinopathy and was treated by R. Chen. She is stabilized now but her story replicates mine so closely. If you have RP simplex or recessive this is very interesting. Or bee...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Thanks so much Mike for the kind sentiments. I too have suffered from migraines and sometimes wonder if it is not an autoimmune condition as well but who knows. I have used the maxalt/imitrex type meds but don't like the side effects. If I truly have a full fledge extremely painful one I will ask my...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi, Been awhile since I have posted but thought I would update all of you on my situation. I actually improved on my Goldmann Visual Field last March 2013 when I went to Dr. Heckinlively. Especially in one of my eyes. I always have believed mine was from an injury back in 1999 and when I took the in...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

First of all thank you Mike for all your great information. I am so wanting to go to the right place and not to someone who just does alot of them. Appears the doctor is around the Detroit area which could be driven just fine. Just was hoping the cataract would hold out longer but Dr. Heckenlively s...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi William, I too have the luxury of being diagnosed differently depending on where I go. The NIH debated with each other for at least an hour whether I have AIR or RP recessive. When Dr. H heard they decided on the RP he was quite dismayed and upset at what he believes is a big mistake on their par...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi Wolfman, I've taken the cellcept, cyclosporine and prednisone. For over 2 years I took 20 mgs of prednisone, 1000 of cellcept and i believe it was 1000 mgs of cyclosporine. It stabilized me for the most part and when I had my antibodies tested I was down to only one band which the doctor suspecte...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Thanks Mike, I am excited to be down to 1 band but would like to know if that means I will be weaned off the medications or will remain on them until I am completely without any bands. I feel I have been stabilized but will know more what my future holds when Dr. Heckenlively sends me his thoughts w...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi Mike, You once said it takes at least 2 years to stop the attacking with immunosuppression medications I believe. I had a Western Blot taken in December and will be receiving the results hopefully in March after taking the cyclosporine, cellcept and prednisone for 2 years to see what results have...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi to all... I have been talking with Ron who also has been diagnosed with Air and other things so he was hoping as I am that others can put their input in as to his situation. He has more problems with the central vision and the brightness as some of you do so maybe you can address some of his conc...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi Matias, My name is Liz amd I take a drug combination for my autoimmune retinopathy(AIR) which is 20 mgs of prednisone, cellcept and cyclosporine everyday and have so for almost 2 years. It has stabilized my visual field vision from becoming worse and it was deteriorating too fast for my liking fo...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi Mike, You seem to be going at it quite strong and glad there is a doctor finally taking a real inaterest so you can find out what is really going on. Sometimes the unknown is worse then knowing as then you can deal and know what to do but the truth is sometimes the doctors just don't know but at ...

Re: Autoimmune Retinopathy AIR

Hi to all, Well I spent Thursday at the NIH going from one test to another from when I arrived at 7:30 am to leaving close to 6 pm so was a long grueling day. I did this because I was hoping to be part of a clinical trial that uses rituxmab infusions to treat autoimmune retinopathy. So after a day o...
